Another busy weekend of football started on Saturday with the U7 Yellows, U7 Blues, U9 and girls U11's all in action. The U7 Blues played their first ever match away at Bardwell and despite a nervous start improved as the match went on and managed to score a few goals along the way. The Yellows were once again at Home and put up a battling performance against Florence Park. Another good experience for the players, and well done on scoring their first few goals of the season The U9 once again put in a good performance at home to Cumnor Minors, to continue their excellent start to the season The Girls U11 continued their fantastic start to the season with another fantastic performance away at Oxford City Blues. Sunday saw the U12's U13's and U14's back in action against St Edmunds, Hanney Youth and Cumnor Minors. The U12's played their first ever home match v St Edmunds and once again didn't get the result they would have liked, but with their good effort and more match experience things will soon improve. The Under 13's had a poor first half and found themselves 4-1 down with 20 minutes remaining, but they dug in took the game to Hanney and produced a fine comeback to draw 4-4, and were unlucky not to win the game. Callan O'Connor led the comeback with 3 goals, before Leighton Kimber got Headington level with just a few minutes remaining. The U14's, playing their first game since promotion to the "B" league, put up a good effort considering they only had 10 players, but went down 7-3 to Cumnor. Harry Wheeldon, Jack Gifford and Kieran Clatke netted Headington's goals. Well done to all the players who took part this weekend. It was a busy weekend of football for Headington Youth's first set of official matches, a big thanks to all the parents/spectators that came and cheered all the teams on. Saturday morning saw 3 teams at home and started with the U11 Girls, who put in a fantastic performance against Thame, which was followed by the U7's in action for the very first time against Mansfield Road. The U9's completed the days football and they battled brilliantly in their game agaist Harwell and Hendred.
The U12's, U13's and U14's were all in action on Sunday and the U12's in their first ever game together didn't get the result they would have liked but we are looking forward to seeing the improve hopefully week by week. The U13's travelled the short journey to Marston Saints and unfortunately lost by the odd goal to Marston Saints, but showed good character to force their way back into the game almost snatched a draw at the end. Callan O'Connor (2), Ashton Donnelly and Adam Smith were all on target in a 5-4 defeat. The Under 14's, whose league campaign starts next week, had a tough game against A League side Summertown in a friendly match, going down 8-2. Harry Wheeldon and Bradley Cox both managed to get on the scoresheet for Headington. Well done to all the players that took part this week and good luck for next weeks fixtures. Headington Youth are looking for 2 Volunteer coaches to help out with one of our Under 7's teams and also for our Under 6's which we are hoping to create in the near future. If you know of anyone who may be interested please get in touch via the club website.
